My name is Mike Scott, I'm an exited founder having previously built and sold Scotland’s largest social media agency within 6 years start to finish, fully bootstrapped, in a multi-million sale to PA Media Group. An experienced business leader, social and digital marketing consultant, based in Glasgow - Scotland, with over 20 years in the industry, I have worked on many household global brands, helping them to develop their strategies and deliver outstanding results.

what to expect from a marketing consultant?

Everybody is a marketing expert...right? Throughout my last 20 years in marketing, I have seen it almost everything. The issue is, the market changes, what's hot one moment is old news the next. After all, it was less than 10 years ago that I was sat in boardrooms convincing the c-suite that social would be the next big thing and they needed to get on Facebook. 

So, what should you look for in a marketing consultant?

  • Do they actually have the experience?
    Marketing is more accessible than ever, with AI, easy-to-use design tools, website builders and quick access systems to get off and running, everybody can run a marketing campaign. It takes experience though to know who to target, where to target them, understand what will make them connect and eventually purchase. Getting that wrong can be a costly mistake.

  • Are they specialists in one area? 
    There are many marketing consultants who know one platform inside out and have very little capabilities in another. The issue then arises that they will of course point you in that direction as the solution when it might not be the best for the brand. After all, why would a TikTok expert give you an SEO and email marketing plan?

  • Are they aligned to your business locations?
    The business landscape dramatically changes depending on location. How you market to your audience in one area to another often changes and you need a consultant who understands this and the location behaviours.
